How MatchMyPhone Does a Fit-Check
Compatibility is more than a phone name on a listing. Here is how MatchMyPhone checks magnets, footprint, cases, screens, charging and clearance.

“Compatible” is doing too much work in phone-accessory shopping.
Sometimes it means the magnets snap. Sometimes it means the charger negotiates watts. Sometimes it means the listing title contains your phone’s name. Those are not the same thing — and on foldables, the gap between them is where bad buys live.
MatchMyPhone exists to shrink that gap. Here’s the fit-check we use when we decide whether something belongs in front of a Duo or Fold 8 owner.

1. Start with the phone, not the accessory
You already know which phone you have (or you’re about to have). Everything else is noise until that’s fixed.
A MagSafe wallet that was perfect on an iPhone 17 Pro Max is not automatically a Duo accessory. A Fold 8 “magnetic” mount that assumes Samsung’s Magnet Case is on the phone is a different product than one that claims bare-phone magnets (Fold 8 doesn’t have those built in).
Phone first. Accessory second. Always.
2. Separate magnets from footprint
Magnets answer: will it attach and align for wireless charging or magnetic hold?
Footprint answers: does the accessory stay inside the closed phone’s edges, clear the cameras, and leave the hinge usable?
On Duo, MagSafe can be real while a tall battery pack still overhangs. On Fold 8, Qi2 Ready charging often still needs a Magnet Case before packs, grips, and mounts have anything to grab.
If a manufacturer only talks about magnets, they haven’t finished the fit story.
3. Check the case stack
Accessories rarely meet a naked phone in the real world.
Ask:
Does this need a specific case (Samsung Magnet Case, Apple Duo Case, third-party MagFit)?
Does the case block wireless charging, camera control, or MagSafe alignment?
Does a grip or wallet still clear the cameras once the case is on?
Are you stacking folio + MagSafe pack + wallet — or is that three products fighting one ring?
A “fits Duo” claim that ignores the case you’re actually buying is incomplete.
4. Outer screen ≠ inner screen
Foldable screen protection is not one SKU.
Outer displays, inner folding displays, and camera lenses often need different products. An AR film bundled with a Samsung Magnet Case is not a substitute for a full outer-glass story, and it does nothing for the inner panel.
If a listing says “screen protector for Fold 8” without saying which screen, treat that as unfinished information.
5. Charging claims need a wattage and a path
“Fast wireless charging” without a number is marketing.
For Duo, Apple frames MagSafe / Qi2 25W compatibility on its own cases. Many third-party magnetic packs still top out at 15W wireless even when they attach. For Fold 8, Samsung points owners toward a 45W Super Fast Charger for wired, and wireless behavior depends on magnet-case + charger combo.
Also note the boring truth both phones share: the box includes a cable, not a wall adapter. Plan the brick.
6. Mounts and grips need clearance evidence
This is where MatchMyPhone gets deliberately slow.
A mount can magnetically attach and still:
block a camera
hit the hinge when the phone opens
feel unstable in landscape
only work with one case family
Until there’s product-specific evidence for Duo or Fold 8 geometry, “MagSafe mount” is a category, not a recommendation. We’d rather leave a gap than publish a hopeful listing.
7. Prefer primary sources, then community signals
Order of trust:
Manufacturer pages and Apple/Samsung docs
Reputable reporting that cites those sources
Owner forums and Reddit for what people are bumping into
Never: a single unverified comment treated as a spec sheet
Community frustration (“this wallet hangs off”) is a signal to investigate. It is not automatically a published fact.
8. What we won’t stretch to say
We won’t invent dimensions, drop ratings, wattage, or “we tested it” language.
We won’t assume Duo and Fold 8 share accessory behavior because both fold.
We won’t treat an Apple MagSafe filter (including brand chips that may be empty) or a Samsung Magnet Case marketing line as a blanket clearance stamp for every grip and mount in the ecosystem.
The short version
Phone → magnets → footprint → case stack → which screen → real wattage → mount clearance.
If a product fails any step, it doesn’t get a free pass because the magnets felt satisfying.
That’s the fit-check. That’s MatchMyPhone.
